Job description

Summary of Speech and Language Services:

Therapeutic services provided are consistent with the guidelines/scope of practice as recommended by the American-Speech-Language and Hearing Association and the Rhode Island Department of Health.

Those services include:

New Admission and hospital readmission assessments which are primarily related to oropharyngeal swallow status.
Dysphagia treatment including; diet texture modification, staff/patient education and consultation; consultation with dietary staff.
Quarterly screens to monitor long-term dysphagia patients (approximately 30 residents).
Speech, language, swallow screens secondary to status change.
Staff in-service training on relevant topics.
Treatment of speech, voice and language deficits secondary to stroke or other Neuromuscular Disorders such as Parkinson’s Disease if rehabilitation potential is evident.
Documentation is comprehensive and includes: daily notes, and consults per facility with relevant evaluation forms/progress notes.

At this time, services are available 1-2 days per week. This may vary dependent on the number of new admissions, referrals and overall census. A tentative estimate of time required would be 8-12 hours per week given the current census.



Position is Part-time / approx. 8-16 hours weekly with a flexible schedule Monday-Friday, and no weekends.

Candidate must possess a RI License in Speech Pathology.
