Pain Management

Candidate must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to evaluate and manage seen in the integrated spine program. The individual must demonstrate knowledge and the ability to assess data regarding the patient’s status and provide care as described above.
Responsibilities:
1. Work in the specialty of spine/pain care.
2. Work closely with and under the supervision of a Board Certified Interventional Pain Specialist.
3. Take complex medical histories on patients referred for consultation by academic and community physicians.
4. Order consultations and interacts with members of the other specialty medical teams, particularly neurosurgery and orthopedic surgery, as appropriate.
5. Perform physical examinations on new and return spine patients
6. Order laboratory tests, x-rays, special imaging studies, and other diagnostic procedures.
7. Perform trigger point injections, bursa injections, and other appropriate injections as needed for the treatment of related pain disorders.
8. Monitor dosages and adjusts medications if needed.
9. Order and supervise the administration of physical therapy.
10. Reach a tentative diagnosis of medical, surgical, and other conditions.
11. Develops treatment plans in conjunction with attending physician to provide optimal patient medical management.
12. Participate in continuing medical education to include specialty and sub-specialty meetings, clubs, boards, and conferences.
13. Be willing to participate in quality improvement activities.
14. Counsel patients and families about health wellness, illness, and health maintenance.
15. Participate in special projects and committee functions.
