Greater Los Angeles VA Seeking Deputy Designated Education Officer (DDEO)

Open to all physician specialties’; this is a full-time position for a physician clinician-educator within the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System (VAGLA) at the West LA Medical Center that provides leadership for all Health Professions Education (HPE) programs, working under the direction of the Designated Education Officer (DEO). VAGLA administers the largest VA-funded educational program in the nation, with over 3,000 trainees across various disciplines including medical, dental, nursing, and associated health.

The Deputy Designated Education Officer (DDEO) assists the DEO in overseeing all health professions training at VAGLA while ensuring quality and maintaining educational affiliations. The DDEO provides leadership in clinical, educational, and administrative capacities, with preferred expertise in educational accreditation, financing, and policy. Strong skills in communication, project management, and interpersonal relations are essential.

Key responsibilities include overseeing trainee recruitment, onboarding, and performance, enhancing training quality based on feedback, and establishing affiliation agreements between the VA and educational institutions. The DDEO serves as a liaison between affiliate organizations, program directors, and VA staff across all clinical disciplines, facilitating seamless coordination of training programs. The DDEO works closely with the DEO and the Office of Academic Affiliations (OAA) to expand programs, provide guidance, and resolve challenges, emphasizing leadership.

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:00 am-3:30pm

Qualifications:
• Must be a U.S. Citizen
• Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine
• Must possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a state, territory or DC
• Residency: Must have completed residency in an accredited core specialty
• Experience: A record of academic and leadership accomplishments in educational, administrative,
and clinical roles. Academic credentials suitable for a faculty appointment at affiliate Schools of
Medicine

• Competitive Salary Range: $255,000-$400,000, Final Salary determination within this range.
