Diabetes, Pediatric Endocrinology, Pediatrics

Permanent - Pediatric Endocrinologist - Richmond, VA

Job description

Seeking a Pediatric Endocrinologist to join its Division of Pediatric Endocrinology and Metabolism. This center is the most comprehensive regional program for pediatric endocrine disorders, diabetes, and metabolism, offering multidisciplinary care, clinical trials, and fellowship training.

The role is ideal for a board-certified or board-eligible Pediatric Endocrinologist eager to grow in an academic, research-driven environment with opportunities for clinical care, mentorship, and translational research in childhood obesity and diabetes.

Two open physician positions (Pediatric Endocrinologists, MD/DO, each full-time 1.0 FTE). Both are clinical faculty roles focused on patient care, with the expectation of participating in all division activities (outpatient clinics, inpatient consults, call coverage, and teaching). These openings are to replace recently departed faculty and to support the division’s clinical volume.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

- Will each maintain a busy outpatient clinic schedule, seeing pediatric patients with a wide range of endocrine problems (diabetes, metabolic syndrome, thyroid disorders, growth delay, puberty issues, adrenal disorders, etc.).
- They will also attend on the inpatient service on a rotating basis – this involves consulting on hospitalized children with endocrine issues (for example, diabetic ketoacidosis management, endocrine consultations for patients in other services) and taking call from the emergency department or inpatient units for urgent endocrine consults.
- Call duty is shared among the endocrinology physicians; with two new doctors joining, the on-call rotation will improve (currently the few existing physicians have a heavier call burden).
- The positions also involve working closely with a multidisciplinary team: the faculty will coordinate with diabetes nurse educators, nutritionists, social workers, and the existing - Advanced Practice Providers to provide team-based care.
- There may be opportunities to develop or lead specific programs (e.g., one physician might focus on the diabetes program and another on general endocrinology or an obesity clinic, depending on interest).

Teaching Expectations:

Teaching is an integral part of these roles. The pediatric endocrinology division is home to an ACGME-accredited Pediatric Endocrinology fellowship program.
