- Physicians back up our full time OB laborists (CNMs and 1 Family Med physician) – perform operative vaginal births, cesareans; we assist with OB emergencies in person and by phone for consultation; rounding on postop patients; circumcisions. We take gyn ER call (very rarely called at all and less so called to come in).
- Deliveries: Typical volume is 30 births/month; 3-4 cesareans/month.
- What are the typical percentages of high vs low risk pregnancies? Typically very low risk. We have cutoff for intake BMI – patients of intake BMI greater than 45 are transferred to higher level of care. All patients of less than 37w0d are transferred out by pediatric policy.
- Does the OB perform/interpret ultrasounds FHB interpretations? OB physicians do not perform or interpret formal sonography. We have portable US available for basic bedside sonography at provider discretion in OB unit and clinic. All OB admissions have informal US for position on admission – performed by the laborist
- How much of the position is in office/clinic gynecological work? Providers typically spend 4 days a week in the clinic (hours 8-4 w lunch break). We do many office procedures such as LARCs, LEEP, colpo, genital biopsies
- Is there anything related to reproductive endocrinology? We care for patients with endocrinopathies consistent with general gynecology.
