Seeking a Pediatric Clinical Geneticist to lead the Section of Clinical Genetics. This role involves teaching, research, clinical work, and administrative leadership in a growing genetics program that serves pediatric and adult patients. One of the largest full-service pediatric hospital in Virginia, and its newly expanded 500,000-square-foot inpatient Children’s Tower enhances its ability to provide specialized care.
JOB DESCRIPTION
- General Clinical Geneticist role.
- Focus on patient care, teaching, and research.
- Works with both pediatric and adult patients.
- Requires board certification or eligibility in Clinical Genetics and Genomics.
- Preferred: Additional certification in Clinical Biochemical Genetics.

COLLABORATION
- The division works under a collaborative care model, meaning genetic counselors are heavily integrated into outpatient clinics
- They also have a Genetic Counseling Master’s program, so faculty geneticists are expected to teach and mentor students
- The team includes a PA a locum tenens MD, and currently one full-time MD — with the goal of rebuilding to at least three faculty (including a new section chief)
QUALIFICATIONS
- MD or MD/PhD
- ABMGG certification in Clinical Genetics and Genomics
-Fellowship training in metabolic/biochemical genetics is a plus.
-The ideal candidate is comfortable managing a wide range of genetic conditions across all age groups, and is committed to a team-based approach (working closely with genetic counselors, nutritionists, etc.).
-They should have a passion for teaching (given the academic setting and genetic counseling program) and ideally some interest in clinical research or program development. - Strong communication and empathy with patients/families are essential.
- At least 5 years in patient care and leadership experience in a medical genetics program
- The ideal candidate will have at least 8 years of patient care experience,

- Leadership in genetic services and program development
- Expertise in pediatric and adult genetic conditions
- Strong teaching and mentoring background for medical students, residents, and genetic counselors
- Research contributions (publications, conference presentations)
- Administrative experience (strategic planning, quality improvement)
- Preferred: ABMGG certification in Clinical Biochemical Genetics
