Start Date: November 2026 – January 2027 (Ongoing shift coverage)

Shift / Work Schedule: Varied 9-hour and 12-hour shifts (Days: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM; Mid-shifts: 5:00 PM – 2:00 AM; Nights: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)

Weekend & Call Requirements: Shift-based coverage as needed | Zero call requirements

Target Rate Cap: Up to $400.00 / hour

Position Overview & Facility Capabilities

A 250-bed Level 3 Trauma Center and teaching hospital in north-central Iowa is seeking 1 to 2 Locum Tenens Emergency Medicine Physicians to cover an active volume of open shifts (averaging ~15 open shifts per month). The facility serves 33,000 annual ED visits, with patient transfers kept below 3%.

Clinical Responsibilities & Department Staffing

Emergency Department Operations: Deliver comprehensive emergency medical care in a high-volume setting averaging 77 patients per day (peak volume occurs between 11:00 AM and 11:00 PM).

Coverage & APP Supervision: Work alongside 1–2 attending physicians during day hours and solo physician night coverage, actively supervising 1–2 Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) per shift.

Inpatient & Outreach: Dedicated 100% to Emergency Department care (no inpatient rounding or outreach responsibilities).

Documentation & Academic Environment: Utilize Epic EMR in a resident/teaching hospital environment.

Candidate Submission & Qualification Requirements

Board Certification & Licensure:

Board Certification: Board Certified in Emergency Medicine by ABEM [REQUIRED; Board Eligible or non-ABEM certifications NOT accepted].

State Licensure: Active Iowa Medical License OR active Compact License / IMLC [REQUIRED].

Trauma Credentialing: Active Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification required for trauma privileging [REQUIRED].

Background & Scheduling Requirements:

Shift Availability: High candidate availability to cover a significant block of open shifts across November, December, and January [REQUIRED].

Credentialing Speed: Clean 10-year work history without gaps to facilitate expedited credentialing (no emergency/temporary privileges available) [REQUIRED].

Background Check: Completely clean background and licensure history [REQUIRED].
