Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant – Emergency Department

Job description

The Augusta GA Health Care System is seeking a qualified and compassionate Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our Emergency Department team. This advanced practice provider will deliver timely, patient-centered care under the supervision of board-certified emergency physicians.

The ideal candidate will have strong clinical skills, experience in high-acuity environments, and a
commitment to serving our nation’s Veterans with excellence.

Key Responsibilities

•Assess, diagnose, and manage patients presenting with acute illnesses and injuries.
•Perform minor procedures within the scope of licensure, including laceration repair, splinting, incision and drainage, and wound care.
•Collaborate with supervising physicians on complex or high-risk cases.
•Document clinical encounters in the electronic health record (EHR) system in compliance with all policies and regulations.
•Participate in performance improvement activities, peer review, and compliance initiatives.

General Requirements (Both NP and PA):

•Minimum of five (5) years of emergency department experience strongly preferred.
•Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
•Proficiency in written and spoken English.

Nurse Practitioner (NP) Requirements:

•Master's degree in nursing from an accredited program.
•Active and unrestricted NP license in any U.S. state or territory.
•National certification as a Nurse Practitioner (emergency medicine specialty preferred).

Physician Assistant (PA) Requirements:

•Master’s degree from an accredited PA program.
•Active and unrestricted PA license in any U.S. state or territory.
•Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

Credentialing & Privileging Requirements

•Licensure, certification, and clinical competencies must be verified through the VetPro system.
•Completion of a Focused Provider Practice Evaluation (FPPE) at the start of employment.
•Ongoing Provider Practice Evaluation (OPPE) conducted quarterly.
