POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS:
Experience: At least 12 of the prior 18 months or previous or current participation in a hospital-affiliated residency or clinical fellowship
License: a current license to practice medicine in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia) when services are performed onsite on VA property
Board Certification: Board Certified or Board Eligible Pathologist by the American Board of Pathology
Certificate:
o BLS, ACLS, or equivalent
o NPI
o DEA Certificate
US Citizenship: US Citizen
Must not be on the OIG Excluded list
Ability to effectively speak, understand, read, and write English
Background check required
Must meet health screening requirements
Basic proficiency in Microsoft OS and software and functional typing/keyboarding skills
Be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods and physically capable of performing all the services required
CORE DUTIES:
Performing surgical pathology gross, microscopic, and final diagnosis rendering along with coding of surgical reports with pathology in rotation with other pathologists. Surgical pathology receives biopsies, small specimens, skin specimens, and complex resection cases in genitourinary and gastrointestinal systems, biopsies, and small surgical cases from orthopedics, podiatry, and ENT services.
Provide intraoperative consultation to surgical services.
Perform fine needle aspiration biopsies, provided diagnoses in rapid onsite evaluation for CT-guided and EBUS-guided fine needle aspiration biopsies, and provided diagnoses on gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology specimens.
Perform autopsies with pathology trainees.
Participate in prospective peer and retrospective reviews of 10% of cases when needed.
Perform review and interpretation of serum and urine protein electrophoresis.
Additional responsibilities may include overseeing a section of the laboratory, providing clinical consultation services, and overseeing the department's QA/QI.
Participate in hospital/departmental committees and hospital/departmental conferences as needed.
Provide consultation to Medical Center and laboratory staff in matters of test utilization, technical and result interpretation.
HOURS:
Full-time, 40 hours per week as scheduled.
Shift scheduling is generally Mon-Fri, 7:00am-3:30pm.
Weekend and evening hours may occur when Veteran needs arise.
