Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician Assistant Opportunity – Stuart, FL:
Employment Type: Locum Tenens – 1099
Start Date: October 12, 2026
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 6:30 AM–3:30 PM
Call: Required (minimum 6 nights per month, plus rotating weekend call)
Practice Details
Inpatient Cardiothoracic Surgery
No outpatient clinic responsibilities
EMR: Epic
Approximately 20–30 surgeries per month
Adult patient population
Work alongside a team of cardiothoracic surgeons and APPs
Approximately 20 patients per day
Coverage needed due to two APPs on FMLA
Daily Responsibilities
First assist in cardiothoracic surgery
Round independently in the CVICU and on telemetry patients
Participate in first-call surgical coverage
Manage postoperative cardiothoracic surgery patients
Work collaboratively with the cardiothoracic surgery team
Surgical Experience Required
Strong first assist experience in cardiothoracic surgery
Comfortable with:
CABG procedures (approximately 75% of cases)
Valve surgeries
Aortic surgeries
Endoscopic Vein Harvesting (EVH) experience required (Maquet EVH system preferred)
Requirements
Physician Assistant
Active Florida license required (client is not willing to license)
Active DEA
PA-C
BLS and ACLS
EVH Certification preferred
Minimum 2 years of Cardiothoracic Surgery experience
ICU experience required
Must be comfortable rounding independently in the CVICU and telemetry units
Call Details
Minimum 6 night call shifts per month
Night call: 7:00 PM–7:00 AM
Rotating weekend call
Average of 1–2 callbacks per month
