Cardiothoracic Surgery APP Needed in Iowa City, IA

Job description

Start Date: January 2027
Assignment Length: 13 weeks, with potential extension
Credentialing: Approximately 6 weeks (no temporary privileges)

Schedule

- 4x10-hour shifts, 7 AM–5 PM
- Shared call 1–2 times per week
- Occasional weeknight standby
- No weekend shifts or weekend call
- Flexible options for part-time or call-only coverage

Clinical Scope
Adult cardiothoracic surgery, including:

- CABG and valve procedures
- Aneurysms and dissections
- Impella/LVAD
- Heart transplant

Required Qualifications

- PA: Graduate of an accredited PA program, current NCCPA certification, and Iowa license eligibility
- ARNP: Master's degree, current specialty board certification, and Iowa ARNP licensure
- Current BLS and ACLS
- Relevant clinical experience in cardiothoracic surgery or the specified hospital specialty
- Eligible for hospital privileges

Preferred Experience

- 3–5 years of cardiothoracic surgery experience
- 1–3 years as an APP in ICU or cardiothoracic surgery

Additional Skills*
Candidates should identify experience with:

- Independent procedures and first assisting
- Endoscopic vein harvesting (EVH)
- Getinge HemoPro system
- Radial artery harvesting or robotic thoracic procedures (preferred)

Vascular surgery, TAVR, and AAA experience are not required.
