Anesthesiologist – Coastal Virginia Locums | Bread-and-Butter + Ortho/OB | Flexible Shifts
Job description
A modern 274-bed acute care hospital in the Virginia Beach area is looking for additional locums anesthesiologists starting in early January. This acute care hospital is part of a large not-for-profit health system that serves Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. The hospital recently completed a major campus replacement with two new patient towers, a bright atrium, and modern perioperative spaces, giving you up-to-date ORs and support areas to work in.
Key clinical features:
• Dedicated orthopedic hospital on campus with a full continuum of ortho and spine services (pre-op, surgery, rehab, and home care).
• Accredited Primary Stroke Center and Magnet-recognized nursing, with advanced heart & vascular, maternity, breast, and neurosciences programs.
• One of the largest regional systems for cardiovascular and orthopedic care, offering broad support for complex but non-cardiac surgical patients.
This is a locum tenens (1099) anesthesiology role with multiple openings, covering January 1 – June 30, 2026, with credentialing targeted for an early January start. Shifts are 8, 10, and 12 hours, primarily days, with coverage driven by team needs and scheduled plus on-call responsibilities. Call is ~1:10 with weeknight and/or weekend call required. The environment uses Epic for documentation.
Case mix & procedures (no hearts / no thoracics):
• Bread-and-butter adult cases (pediatrics preferred but not required)
• OB and labor epidurals
• Regional and neuraxial anesthesia (spinals, epidurals, peripheral blocks)
• Complex orthopedics and spine
• Complex vascular (non-cardiac)
• General surgical cases aligned with a busy ortho, spine, vascular, and general surgery service line
• Vent management, central and arterial line placement; no open hearts, no thoracic, no chronic pain, no PA catheter work
Overall, it’s a busy, modern community hospital in the Virginia Beach coastal market, with strong orthopedic and vascular programs, Magnet-level nursing, and a structured perioperative system—appealing to anesthesiologists who like variety, acuity, and a well-organized OR.
