Anesthesiologist – Academic Level I Trauma - Coastal Virginia - Open to Licensing

Job description

This assignment is at a large, over-500-bed tertiary academic medical center in southeastern Virginia. It’s the region’s only Level I adult trauma and burn center and the primary teaching hospital for a nearby medical school, with an attached heart hospital and robust subspecialty services (neurosciences, oncology, urology, spine, women’s health, NICU, etc.). The hospital is Magnet-designated for nursing and an accredited Comprehensive Stroke Center.

Details:
• Dates: January 2026 start (credentialing targeted for early January) through June 30, 2026

• Schedule:
o Daytime shifts with 8-, 10-, and 12-hour options, based on team needs
o 4×10s noted (8:00–17:00) within standard day schedule

• Call:
o Must be open to weeknight and/or weekend call
o Approx 1:14 call ratio

• Clinical environment:
o Level I trauma tertiary center; high-acuity mix
o Epic charting

• Case mix / skills:
o General anesthesia – adults required; pediatrics preferred
o OB, spinal, epidural, regional
o Neurosurgical – especially spine
o Complex vascular (excluding open heart)
o Complex orthopedics
o Vent management, arterial & central lines
o No open-heart anesthesia, no thoracic, no dedicated pain procedures

• Contract:
o Locum tenens, 1099
o Willing to license, but the client notes valid VA license is preferred/required at submission

Location-wise, this is in southeastern Virginia—a walkable, historic neighborhood adjacent to downtown, near the water, with easy access to beaches, the Outer Banks, and the broader Hampton Roads region.
