Pain Psychologist | New York, NY

We are seeking a Pain Psychologist to join an interdisciplinary pain management team providing evidence based behavioral health services to Veterans with chronic pain. This is a full time contract opportunity offering a consistent weekday schedule, competitive compensation, no call, and malpractice coverage.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

Pay: $120/hour, 1099

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM

Call: No call

Malpractice Insurance: Covered

Position: 1 FTE

Contract: 1 year base period with four additional 1 year option periods

Setting: VA Medical Center, Interdisciplinary Pain Management

Work Model: Primarily in person with some approved telehealth visits

WORK LOCATIONS

This position supports two New York Harbor VAHCS locations:

The provider should be comfortable supporting both locations. Occasional travel between the Manhattan and Brooklyn campuses may be required based on patient volume. The frequency of travel will be determined by the service team. The majority of services will be provided in person, with some telehealth visits approved by the service team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments and evaluations for patients experiencing chronic pain and associated behavioral health concerns.

Develop individualized, evidence based treatment plans focused on improving function, quality of life, pain management, and coping skills.

Provide evidence based interventions including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Chronic Pain (CBT CP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing, biofeedback, mindfulness based interventions, and psychoeducation.

Provide individual, group, family, and caregiver focused behavioral health services.

Collaborate with physicians, nurses, physical therapists, and other members of the interdisciplinary pain management team.

Monitor patient progress, evaluate treatment effectiveness, and modify treatment plans as clinically appropriate.

Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation and participate in treatment planning, case conferences, and interdisciplinary team meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS

PhD or PsyD in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA or CPA accredited graduate program.

Completion of an APA or CPA accredited predoctoral internship.

Current, full, unrestricted psychologist license.

Minimum of 2 years of professional psychology experience, including relevant experience in health psychology, behavioral medicine, chronic pain management, or behavioral health interventions for chronic pain.

Current BLS certification.

Clinical Health Psychology board certification as specified for candidate submission.

Ideal candidates will have a strong background in chronic pain management, evidence based psychological interventions, and interdisciplinary care.

• $120/hour, 1099 contract with malpractice insurance covered and no call.
• Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–4:30 PM, providing chronic pain psychology services to Veterans in New York.
• Work within an interdisciplinary pain management team, delivering evidence-based treatments including CBT-CP, ACT, mindfulness, and biofeedback.
