Start Date: 2/23/2026
Contract Length: 6 months, with option to extend
Coverage Type: Scheduled clinical hours with optional call
Schedule
Shift Length: 12-hour shifts
Shift Types: Days, nights, weekends, and holidays
Coverage Requirement: Minimum of 4 shifts per month
Availability Requirement: Must be able to provide 50% night or weekend coverage
Call: Night and weekend call options available, not guaranteed
Practice Setting
Setting: Inpatient hospital-based PCICU
Unit Size: 18-bed PCICU (including 8 neonatal beds)
Annual Surgical Volume: Approximately 350 surgical cases per year
Patient Population:
Majority pediatric patients
Neonatal population
Approximately 8% adult congenital patients
Work Details
Daily Census: 17–18 patients
Care Focus:
Predominantly surgical patients
Heart failure population
Ventilated patients
Pre- and post-operative cardiac surgery patients
Cardiac catheterization patients
ECMO and CRRT management
Pre- and post-transplant cardiac patients
Care Team Structure:
Daytime: 2 teams, each with 1 attending, 3 NPs, and 1 fellow
Overnight: 1 attending and 2 NPs
EMR: Epic
Procedures
APPs may perform:
IV placement
Arterial lines
Possible intubations or central lines
Most procedures are performed by fellows or attendings
Skills & Experience Required
Minimum 1 year of recent PCICU experience
Must be true PCICU experience (no step-down or non-surgical ICU)
Comfortable managing neonatal through adult congenital populations
Strong knowledge of pediatric cardiovascular critical care
Experience managing ECMO, CRRT, and complex cardiac patients
ECMO experience preferred
Team-oriented, flexible, strong communication skills
Requirements
Board Certification: CPNP-AC required for NPs
License:
NPs: Active California license required at submission
PAs: May submit without a California license
DEA: Required (California, Schedule II)
Certifications: BLS, PALS
Credentialing
Timeframe: Approximately 60–90 days
