Position Overview
The Associate Medical Director (OB/GYN) provides clinical leadership to support high-quality, cost-effective healthcare within a managed care environment. This role oversees utilization management, quality improvement, and care coordination programs, with a strong commitment to serving underserved populations. Ideal for a physician leader experienced in managed care, operational efficiency, and value-based care.
Schedule & Coverage
Schedule: Flexible part-time
Weekends: May include weekends or on-call
On-Call: As needed based on demand
Primary Responsibilities
Clinical & Utilization Management
Review prior authorizations and appeals for medical necessity
Conduct peer-to-peer consultations
Provide oversight for utilization, disease, and quality management
Assist in developing medical policies, guidelines, and coverage criteria
Provider Performance & Network Oversight
Analyze provider performance and develop profiles
Review provider credentials and qualifications
Participate in evaluating providers not meeting standards
Conduct site and medical record reviews
Pharmacy & Program Oversight
Collaborate with Pharmacy leadership on benefit coordination
Support fraud, waste, and abuse program activities
Program Development, Planning & Compliance
Contribute to annual goals, planning, and program monitoring
Identify member and provider education needs
Represent clinical programs with state/local agencies as assigned
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and accreditation requirements, including Texas Medicaid
Operational Improvement & Leadership
Improve workflows and operational processes
Participate in managed care committees
Support process improvements to enhance outcomes
Supervise, mentor, and evaluate staff

Required Skills & Competencies
Strong understanding of managed care and value-based models
Effective leadership, organizational, and communication skills
Knowledge of Texas Medicaid regulations
Skill in clinical evaluation, care coordination, and population health
Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities
Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage confidential information
Proficient in administrative tasks and computer systems
Detail-oriented, adaptable, hands-on approach

Requirements
Board Certification in OB/GYN – Required (no exceptions)
Texas medical license or willingness to obtain – Required
Clean malpractice and license history – Highly Preferred
Managed care and prior authorization experience – Required
UM committee experience – Preferred
Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams – Required
Knowledge of Texas Medicaid regulations – Required
